This tour of Reunion Island is the only one of our selection that allows you to visit the island exclusively on foot. It is therefore designed for those who love hiking and mythical trails. The pace is lively, allowing you to climb the most famous summits of Reunion in just 13 days. If you’re looking to hike to Reunion Island, this is the perfect route - you won’t find a better one!

Day 1: From the Airport to Roche Ecrite

Morning: Arrival at St. Denis airport in the morning - Reception by your local agent and transfer to the parking lot of the Mamode Camp, above St. Denis. This small stage, which will take you to the beautiful Plaine des Chicots, will be ideal to warm you up.

Walking time: 3 hours/ altitude difference: +620 m

Accommodation: Dinner and night in the cottage of La Roche Ecrite.

If you prefer to postpone the walk the day after your arrival, the first day can be spent visiting Saint-Denis before spending the night on site.

Day 2: Ascension of La Roche Ecrite - Dos d'Ane

Very early after breakfast, departure towards Dos d'Ane. First climb up to 2277 meters, during which we will enjoy the first rays of sun on the Cirque de Salazie on one side and part of the Cirque de Mafate on the other. Impressive views!

On the way to Dos d'Âne, you will walk through a beautiful forest of colorful woods and tamarinds. Dinner and night in bed and breakfast at the Dos d'Ane.

Day 3: From Dos d’Ane to Aurère (Cirque de Mafate)

After breakfast, departure to discover the circus of Mafate, from the islet of Aurère. The word "islet" means a small plateau lost on uneven ground. During this stage, bring your swimsuit for a swim in the freshwater pools of the River des Galets. It’s a refreshing break!

Walking time: 5h00/ Altitude difference: +700 m -690 m.

Dinner and overnight in Aurère.

Day 4: From Aurère to Grand Place les Hauts

Enjoy your breakfast. We will discover the pretty village of the Ilet à Malheur on the way, before settling down to spend the night in the village of Grand Place Les Hauts, which is located in the heart of the Cirque de Mafate and enjoys a breathtaking view of the heart of Mafate and the Piton Cabris.

Average walking time: 4.30 am/ Altitude difference: +500 m -485 m.

Dinner and overnight accommodation on the Grand Place des Hauts.

Day 5: Grand Place les Hauts - Roche Plate

After breakfast, we go to another "small island": Roche Plate. This stage will take you through places with evocative names such as Piton Tortue and Ilet des Orangers; you will ford the ravine of Maïdo and the ravine of Grand-Mère, before arriving at the islet of Roche Plate, culminating at 1132 m.

Dinner and overnight stay in Roche Plate.

Day 6: Roche Plate - Trois-Roches - Marla

After breakfast, we will take the direction of Marla via the geological site of Trois-Roches and its impressive waterfall, an ideal place for a picnic!

Average walking time: 6h00/ Altitude difference: +900 m -350 m.

Dinner and night in a B&B in Marla.

Day 7: Marla - Col du Taïbit - Cilaos

After breakfast, we will climb to the Col du Taïbit while discovering the Cirque de Cilaos. Arrived at the junction with the road at "Ilet à Cordes", it will be possible to exchange your dirty clothes for new ones brought by our vehicle with some provisions.

Accommodation: Dinner and overnight stay in Cilaos (Cilaos).

Day 8: Cilaos - Refuge du Piton des Neiges

After breakfast, a difficult day awaits us with the climb from Cilaos to Caverne Dufour at 1341 meters altitude.

Average walking time: 5.30 am/ Altitude difference: +1350 m -70 m.

Accommodation: Dinner and night at the Caverne Dufour.

Day 9: Climb of the Piton des Neiges (3070 m) - Bourg-Murat

It’s gonna be a rough day!

We will leave the cottage around 4:00 with a headlamp (+ windbreaker and warm clothes) to admire the sunrise from the highest peak of the Indian Ocean! Breakfast will be served at the cottage upon your return from your ascent of the Piton des Neiges.

Then we will descend to the plains and pastures of Bourg Murat. We will cross a beautiful primary forest.

Average walking time: 8 hours/ Altitude difference: +650 meters - 1500 meters.

Dinner and night in bed and breakfast in Bourg Murat.

Day 10: Bourg Murat - Plaine des Sables - Gîte du Volcan

After breakfast, this day is dedicated to a "farandole de Pitons": between the Piton Grand Mère and the Piton Rouge, directing the Piton Misère to reach the Piton aux Herbes Blanches (2035m). Then come the Piton l'Argamasse, the Piton Textor, and finally the forest road of Piton de l'Eau to end the day by crossing the sumptuous Plaine des Sables to the Volcan Lodge (2250 m).

Day 11: Volcano Climbing: Piton de la Fournaise (2631 m)

This day will be dedicated to climbing the Piton de la Fournaise (2631 meters), one of the most active volcanoes in the world! The hike will take you to the Pas de Bellecombe, from where you will have an exceptional panoramic view of the volcano’s enclosure; you will then descend inside the enclosure where you will pass near the first crater, "the Leo Formica", before continuing to the top of the Dolomieu crater, the main crater of the volcano.

Average walking time: 5:00 (return) / Altitude difference: +/- 600 m.

Dinner and overnight at the Volcano gîte.

Day 12: Gîte du Volcan - Gîte de Basse Vallée

After the daily breakfast, you will go to the south-east of the island. During this stage, you will follow the ancient eruptions of the Piton de La Fournaise and see how the vegetation has recovered its rights. We will arrive at the Gîte de Basse Vallée in this green setting.

Average walking time: 6h00/ Altitude difference: +100 m -1750 m.

Dinner and overnight at the gîte of Basse Vallée.

Day 13: End of the Trek and Return to St. Denis

After breakfast, we will finish with this small stage that will take us beyond the farms and shady paths where nature will thank us for having made our show during this wonderful Trek! Around 10h30 we will meet our vehicle, and collect your luggage before the transfer to the airport after a good shower.

It is possible to add a day of rest or visit a site of your choice before flying back.
